Student Friendly Neighborhoods in Austin
Are you studying at the University of Texas and want to find apartments for rent close to campus? Do you want about having lots of restaurants and things to do at your fingertips? Not only are there lots of restaurants and things to do, the public transportation options are very nice, so you don’t have to have a car. It will probably be better if you use public transportation anyway, as parking can be hard to come by in these neighborhoods.
University of Texas – The name says it all. You are right on campus at UT and it is a perfect place for students. Head down Guadalupe Street “The Drag” for everything you’d need to live, eat, and play on campus. Expect noise from students in this neighborhood. Expect to find cheaper apartments and campus housing that is geared towards students. A one bedroom apartment averages around $800 per month here. The Bottom Line: great for students, short walking distance to necessities, local restaurants and shops, good public transportation, bad parking
West University – I bet you can guess where this neighborhood is. Directly west of UT, this is one of the more densely populated Austin neighborhoods. West University is close to campus, music venues, downtown Austin, and restaurants. Upper Boggy Creek/Cherrywood – This is a budget friendly neighborhood with a great local feel. You’ll find that to rent a two bedroom apartment here is around $770 per month. Along with reasonable rent, it is close to campus, restaurants, and things to do. Upper Boggy Creek and Cherrywood would be a great place for grad students with families and anyone else wanting to be near but not too near campus. The closer you get to Interstate 35, the neighborhood becomes shabbier where it isn’t uncommon to find questionable apartment complexes and strip clubs. The Bottom Line: clean, close to campus, close to restaurants, affordable, close hospitals, becomes shady in certain areas
