Dallas, the third largest city in Texas, has 6,371,773 people living in its 385.8 square miles of city.  This makes Dallas’ population density 3,518 people per square mile.

What’s the Weather Like in Dallas?

Dallas has a humid subtropical climate that is hot, humid, and often stormy.  Spring and fall have very pleasant temperatures in Dallas.  However, spring brings the highest chance for stormy weather.  You can expect anything from severe thunderstorm, hail, heavy rain, lightning, to tornadoes.  Tornadoes pose the largest threat to Dallas, as it is located at the southern end of Tornado Alley. Winter in Dallas is mild, with the highest winter temperatures being 55 to 70 degrees and the lowest being 30 to 45 degrees.  You will actually see some snow in Dallas, even though it doesn’t stick around for more than two days and is less than two inches for the year.  Summer is really hot in Dallas where temperatures can reach over 100 degrees and the humidity makes it feel like it is 117.  It is located in the north central Texas region, which makes it the second hottest region in the United States, behind the Mojave Desert.

What Neighborhoods are Close to Downtown Dallas?

Do you enjoy being in the midst of the city and don’t mind paying extra for the privilege to do so?  You’ll find that the closer you are to downtown Dallas, the more expensive the apartment will be. Singles, professionals, and anyone else that enjoys city life will love finding a great place to rent and live in these neighborhoods.What you’ll find here is that there are lots of great restaurants, nightlife, theaters, art venues, parks, and everything else Dallas has to offer.

Uptown – Just northwest of Downtown Dallas, Uptown is a fast growing neighborhood.  You’ll find that not only are you close to downtown, you are close to restaurants, the Katy Trail, clubs, and bars.  A one bedroom apartment for rent in Uptown will be about $1,200 per month.  If you don’t have a car, you need not worry!  Uptown has trollies, trains, and buses at your disposal. The Bottom Line: lots of restaurants, great nightlife, the green Katy Trail, loud, heavy traffic

Deep Ellium – Are you looking for a neighborhood that is close to downtown and also has historic charm?  Look no further than Deep Ellium.  Just east of downtown Dallas, Deep Ellium offers many eclectic food and entertainment options all with that lovely historic atmosphere.  It is also the past and present home to many jazz and blues clubs.  You’ll find that it will cost you about $1,000 per month to rent an apartment here.  The Bottom Line: lots of restaurants, great nightlife, the green Katy Trail, loud, heavy traffic, bad parking, jazz and blues venues

Which Dallas Neighborhoods are Family Friendly?

Whether you already have kids or you foresee kids in your future, the little bundles of joy are going to have a large impact on what neighborhood you choose to rent your apartment or home in.  Is the neighborhood safe? Are there good schools nearby, and what are the private school options?  How close is childcare to my house?  Are there parks and other fun kid-friendly places nearby?  Lucky for you, Dallas doesn’t lack in family friendly neighborhoods.

Gastonwood/Coronado Hills–A very affordable and friendly neighborhood, Gastonwood/Coronado Hills offers lots to a family moving to Dallas.  A one bedroom apartment for rent here is $815 per month on average.  You’ll find that there are many different restaurants to choose from where you can take your family out dinner.  Another plus to this neighborhood is that it is close to Dallas’ Arts District. The Bottom Line: close to lots of restaurants, heavy rush hour traffic on adjacent roads, close to the Arts District,affordable homes and apartments

Kessler Neighbors United– Beautiful homes abound in Kessler, with prices ranging from moderate to a million dollars.  A three bedroom house for rent here will cost you about $1,000 per month here.  This neighborhood is also right next to the Stevens Park Golf course, and the Methodist Dallas Medical Center is also nearby.  Since it is so close to Interstate 30, you are always just a car ride away from anything Dallas has to offer. The Bottom Line: close to downtown, heavy rush hour traffic on adjacent roads, wide range of home prices
