What is San Diego Like?

San Diego has a population of 1,301,617 people living in the city.  This makes it the second largest city in California and the eighth largest city in the Unites States.  The population density for the city is 4,003 people per square mile.  Most of the jobs and economy are centered around military and defense, tourism, trade, manufacturing, and biotechnology.  San Diego is located right next to the Mexican border and is known for its ties to the Navy, beaches, deep water harbor, and mild climate.  For all you animal lovers, San Diego County has one of the highest numbers of plant and animal species on the endangered species list, 492 recorded bird species, the San Diego Zoo, and Sea World San Diego.  If you are more into sports, San Diego is home to the San Diego Chargers of the NFL, and home to some great golf courses like the Torrey Pines Golf Course.

What is the Weather Like in San Diego?

San Diego’s weather is amazing.  How amazing you say? Farmer’s Almanac ranked it as one of the top ten best climates and The Weather Channel ranked it in the top two for best summer climates.  The official climate classification is Mediterranean to the north and semi-arid to the south.  This results in warm, dry summers and mild winters.  The coolest month is December, with 65 for the average high and 49 for the low.  For the most part, the city has warm, dry weather with only 9 to 13 inches of rain falling per year.  Since it is dry most of the year, wildfires occur periodically around the city.

What Neighborhoods are Close to Downtown San Diego?

Balboa Park – If you want to be close to downtown San Diego but prefer a more suburb feel, Balboa Park is the neighborhood for you.  Balboa Park has many apartments and condos for rent.  A one bedroom apartment for rent here will cost you about $1,000 per month.  Balboa Park features a golf course, Timken Art Museum, The San Diego Natural History Museum, and the San Diego Zoo.  Since you are close to Interstate 5 and 163, you can easily get to other parts of San Diego, shopping, and the beach. Ocean Beach–Ocean Beach brings beach lovers together from all walks of life.  Whether you’re a professional, hipster, a beach bum, or even a dog, you’ll find your place at Ocean Beach.  You’re probably wondering why I added in “dog” earlier.  Well Ocean Beach has a 24 hour off leash dog beach, where Fido can run and frolic in the sand and surf with his doggy friends!  An apartment for rent here will cost you about $1,100 per month.  Don’t forget to check out Farmer’s Market Wednesdays during the summer where you can pick up local, fresh produce, flowers, art, and more.  The Bottom Line: the beach is right there, there’s a dog beach, good restaurants, nightlife, traffic

Mission Beach – Are you ready for some beach?  Mission Beach has two miles of it!  This area does attract tourists during the summer, but don’t let that discourage you from enjoying all the sunbathing, surfing, bicycling, and other beach activities that it offers.  Not only does it offer a great beach, you can also find some awesome beach style bars.  A two bedroom apartment for rent in Mission Beach is going to be about $1,650 per month.  The Bottom Line: the beach is right there, dogs are allowed at certain times, good restaurants, nightlife, traffic, lots of outdoor beach activities
